The HP ZR24w is the company’s new mid performance of your computer monitor. The 24-inch screen uses a new S-IPS panel technology that offers a wide color spectrum and wider viewing angles. Instead of using the more common 16:9 aspect ratio, the panel uses the more traditional 16:10 aspect ratio for widescreen computer monitors. This translates into a 1920×1200 native resolution, which gives it a slight edge on most consumer-oriented 24-inch displays.

Although most consumer grade displays use a glossy coating on extremely vivid colors indicate ZR24w uses an anti-glare coating. This coating has a good job of balancing color and preventing glare or reflections. This is very important for anyone who works with a high degree of color fastness to their work.

As with many monitors now, the ZR24w is very clear right from the box. The colors are very vivid with this level of brightness, but it does mean that the blacks a little washed out and gray to get. The best balance between color and black levels was observed when the brightness setting was shifted to the 70 instead of 90 with help of discounted software.

In terms of color, ZR24w has a very good job right out of the box, but who is doing serious graphics work will want a color calibration tool. In my tests with one, shifted the colors to red more levels and have less green. This is not much a consumer, but it is important for any graphics professional to consider.

The main disadvantage of the ZR24w the connectors. It comes with three inputs via DisplayPort, DVI and VGA. One of the main interface that is missing is HDMI. This is now a very common interface for laptops and even desktops. It is certainly more common than DisplayPort and it would be nice to see included.

HP notes that the ZR24w is very green with a 85-sing power efficient and 25% waste. In my testing, the monitor consumers about 70 watts from the wall at full strength and only 2 watts in sleep mode. The housing of the LCD screen while enjoying a great feeling to feel a little light where it can sustainability problems as it should be moved regularly. Unlike the case of the panel, the stand is very sturdy with a full range of adjustments.

Invariable, the ZR24w will be compared with the U2410 Dell UltraSharp display. While they share the same performance in terms of color, brightness and size, the Dell offers a few more video jack inputs, including HDMI. component and composite video as well as a multi-card reader. What the HP has more than the Dell if the price is just $ 425 and this will be an important factor for many consumers.

HP’s ZR24w is a very affordable 24-inch screen for those looking for a professional graphics work. For a base price of $ 425, the display will have a great job with a bright display with a wide color spectrum.
